Grant Courtney is a vision based furniture designer. His designs are unencumbered by convention allowing for unique and original designs. Grant’s driving force is to bring his visions to market principally through the contract/hospitality markets. “Tusk” and “13 and a third” collections are production ready as complete hospitality suites. “Y-Not” and “Sail” are in the conceptual phase and Grant is eager to get these collections market ready as well.
Grant developed this business model with the specific intent of building the “Greenest” furniture on the planet, a virtually untapped market. His manufacturing philosophy starts with locating abundant, sustainable and natural resources in a small geographic region and then specializing in their use. Bamboo, hemp and latex foam are cultivated, processed, converted into a final product and then packaged in southeast China for Earth’s Friend Furniture, LLC. Minimal transportation of raw and semi processed materials reduces the amount of petroleum used in the manufacturing process.
Grant earned his BSBA in Finance and followed this as an 8-year Desert Storm era Navy Special Warfare veteran serving in Explosive Ordnance Disposal. A self-employed entrepreneur since 1994 with much of this time spent as a construction management professional. His experience in construction ranges from residential general contractor to commercial cabinetry business owner and hotel renovation project manager. The downturn in the construction industry presented Grant with the opportunity to let his right brain become dominant in the furniture design arena. This move is continually reinforced in the press with magazine and TV exposure.
Grant also spent 4 years as a Management Consulting professional. Working with Fortune 500 clients to help provide them with business management tools to reduce costs and increase profitability. Working with FedEx, FAO Schwarz, Hollywood Video, Avaya Communications, Lone Star Steel, Hoegaenes Steel Corp, Shaw Carpets and in the last 8 months of 2001 … Enron Transportation Services. This mini career gave Grant a look at many different industries with an emphasis in manufacturing. This experience has proven invaluable in this new venture. Grant puts emphasis on design features, which complement the overall manufacturing process. This attention to detail insures that his furniture will be cost efficient to manufacture.
Earth’s Friend Furniture is perfectly positioned and looking to partner with someone who can bring contacts and a financial statement which will open the necessary doors for this business to become a success.
